Restaurants and cafes come and go in Stockholm. You get used to that in this trendy city. But I was crushed when Tubby’s didn’t reappear this summer. Every year, this small kiosk serving up ice cream, coffee and sweets would be set up along Årstaviken on the southern end of Södermalm. The decor was casual – just a few lounge chairs set up on a deck – but the right on the water location meant the view was fantastic. Plus, the place played the best reggae music. The laid-back vibe made it one of the best summer spots to just hang out in the sunshine. As Tubby’s was on my favorite cycle path, I didn’t always stop, but I loved riding past it. I’ve missed Tubby’s. Thus I was so happy to see that it’s back. Or at least, it’s sort of back. In its place is a funky 1950s-era camper serving up some of the same fika treats. While I haven’t heard reggae yet, they are playing some music at least. So I’ll need to stop soon to see if this place is as cool as its predecessor.
